In honour of Tony Tarver, the distinguished entertainment manager and beloved dance teacher who brought rhythm, elegance, and flair to the Empress Building during its most iconic decades. Throughout the 1950s and 60s, Tarver orchestrated unforgettable evenings beneath the Empress Ballroom’s glittering chandeliers, curating dazzling live performances, glamorous dances, and treasured community events. His passion for music and movement left an indelible mark on generations of local dancers, who fondly remember his poise, patience, and ever-present charm.
The Tarver Suite is a graceful tribute to this golden era – a stylish suite imbued with the spirit of post-war optimism, swing and rock ’n’ roll, and the enduring elegance of ballroom tradition. Ideal for guests who appreciate timeless sophistication and a heartfelt connection to the Empress Building’s rich musical heritage.
Relax in a luxurious super king-size bed – or opt for two comfortable single beds – and rejuvenate in your private en-suite, featuring a spacious double rainfall shower with premium fittings.
You’ll also enjoy a full range of high-end amenities:

The Empress Building is located just 15 minutes from Junction 36 of the A1 Motorway, and 20 minutes from Junction 35 of the M1 Motorway, which gives it a fabulously accessible central location for most road networks.
A main dual carriageway runs alongside the town, and our venue is less than a minute from the main road. The best place to park is The Original Factory Shop, which is directly across the road from the Empress Building, and this is a huge, free car park. There are multiple other accessible car parks in the town, of which some will be free-to-park, and others will be pay-and-display.
Mexborough Town has a serving railway station that is a few short stops from both mainline stations of Doncaster and Sheffield, although it is also easily accessed via either, from towns and cities such as Barnsley, Rotherham, Leeds, and Manchester.
Our venue is a short walk from the station, although you may need to cross the dual carriageway. There is a safe and convenient crossing point less than a minute’s walk from our building, so be sure to cross safely at the designated spot.
Mexborough Town has a large bus station that receives services from the neighbouring towns and cities of Rotherham, Barnsley, and Doncaster, all of which have further services to enable access to and from the larger cities of Leeds and Sheffield.
Our venue is directly across a small road from Mexborough Bus Station, which allows for excellent access for arriving and departing any events held at the Empress Building.
